What comparing two documents is for
They send you the “final version” of a rental contract, an employment agreement or a quote and you have to sign it. Did anything change from what was agreed? Reading both versions in full looking for differences takes a long time and it is easy to miss a clause. With this tool you see every added or deleted word in seconds.
It is also useful for checking the corrections on an assignment, comparing two versions of your CV, tracking changes in a regulation or statute, or checking that copied text matches the original.
How to read the result
Text in green is what appears in the new version and was not in the original. Text in red was in the original and was removed. If one word was replaced by another, you will see both together: the old one in red and the new one in green. “Changes only” hides the identical parts, and “Go to next change” lets you step through the differences one by one.
You can download the result as a report that opens in any browser, to send to your lawyer, your accountant or the other party.
Your documents are not uploaded anywhere
Contracts contain personal data, amounts and conditions you do not want to share with strangers. That is why the comparison happens inside your browser: the files do not go through any server. This tool helps you find changes, but it does not replace a review by a professional.
Frequently asked questions
Can I compare two PDFs?
Yes, as long as they contain digital text. If the PDF is a scan or a photo of the pages, it has no text to compare.
Does it work with Word files?
Yes, with .docx files, which is the current Word format. If you have an old .doc file, open it in Word and save it as .docx.
Can I compare a PDF with a Word file?
Yes. Each side can be a different type: for example, the original contract in Word and the version they sent you in PDF.
What do the colors mean?
Green is text added in the new version. Red is text that was in the original and was removed.
Does it detect formatting changes, such as bold or sizes?
No. It compares text only. Changes in formatting, images or tables are not shown.
Are my documents uploaded to the internet?
No. The comparison is done inside your browser and the files do not go through any server.
